On November 29, 1999, my son Gary Hopkins, Jr., was gunned down by an off-duty Prince George’s County police officer. Along with mothers from across the nation who’ve lost their children to what is essentially state-sanctioned violence, I have been fighting to change the criminal justice system for the last twenty years.
